Evangelical Centre Augsburg
Germany
Located at the southern end of the boulevard in Augsburg, the new building ensemble of the Evangelical Lutheran Church is home to the office of the regional bishop, the parish office and the rectory. The buildings blend harmoniously into the old town, its understated facades framing the square in front of the Basilica of St. Ulrich and Afra.
A small forecourt leads visitors into the central foyer, which serves as the reception area for the regional bishop and the entrance to the parish rooms. The foyer opens onto a courtyard bordered by the rectory, which can be used for outdoor activities. Toward the low–lying Afragässchen alleyway, the new construction steps back slightly in order to allow the residential buildings sufficient daylight.
The ensemble was awarded the Langner Foundation Augsburg Sponsorship Prize in 2022 and received first prize in the competition in 2011. Planning began in 2011 and was completed in 2020. The gross floor area is 4,300 m².
