System-agnostic window sill bracket system for secure window sill installation from BUG

06-02-2024 | BUG Aluminium-Systeme (BUG) is developing an adjustable and system-agnostic HS 500 window sill bracket series for applications with thermal insulation composite, plaster, concrete and clinker facades. The window sill brackets are coordinated system components for an easy-to-install window sill solution.

According to the guidelines, window sill brackets must be installed with a window sill projection of 150 millimetres or more. This stabilises the aluminium external window sill against wind, suction and other weather influences. This ensures that the position can be secured during the construction phase if installed correctly. It should be noted that window sills that can be walked on require special substructures and must be planned and implemented in accordance with the construction work.

In fulfilling its mission as a system-oriented solution provider, BUG has developed a state-of-the-art modular bracket solution for the installation of window sills on composite thermal insulation systems and rendered, concrete and clinker facades. In the HS 500 series of window sill brackets, flexibility is a key factor in terms of ensuring that the right window sill bracket is used in every situation. “Our modular bracket system covers a range of installation situations and therefore easily fulfils all technical and practical application requirements. Thanks to the combination of the slide-in bracket with integrated clamping function and the patented articulated head with clips, the window sill bracket is easy to install regardless of the five-degree inclination of the window sill,” explains Christian Razik, BUG Sales Team Leader. “This window sill bracket series, like other BUG system components, combines our familiar, practical application features to aid the installation process with exceptional functionality, quality and economical durability. Additionally, it meets elevated standards in terms of variability, flexibility and security.”

According to the manufacturer BUG, the window sill holder consists of three components: an extruded aluminium base body, an injection-moulded plate with pressure springs and an injection-moulded joint head with clips. The installation can be flexibly adapted to the building situation on site and can be installed in two ways.

Installation variant one: attach the base body to the facade, slide the injection moulded panel including the articulated head clip into the base body, the articulated head clip fixes itself to the inside of the drip edge and the window sill can be slid on. The window sill can be installed in just a few simple steps.

Installation variant two: First, the window sill is installed using a window sill mounting template with an inclination of at least 5 degrees. The window sill bracket is then installed: pull the tensioned insert out from under the installed window sill and snap the clip of the articulated head into the drip edge of the window sill. The window sill is securely fastened using the counter-pressure of the clamping function and the clip articulated head. No special tools are required to attach the HS 500. Only suitable screws or a compatible adhesive are required for simple and secure installation of the window sill bracket.

The insert can be customised to the building situation. The window sill bracket is freely adjustable and offers a high degree of stability as well as reliable positional security for the aluminium exterior window sill. The design of the window sill bracket does not affect thermal changes in the length of the material.

According to BUG, specialist companies can match the window sill brackets to the colour of the window sill. There is a choice of white or black inserts including clip articulated head clips, while the base body remains in an aluminium look. The BUG bracket system therefore guarantees flexible handling and a high level of user-friendliness during installation.

Sustainable window sill bracket series always focuses on the economic cycle

Even during the production of the extruded aluminium base body, the focus is on the recycled content of the raw material and the energy source used. The extruded aluminium profiles are produced exclusively from recycled aluminium sourced from the EU — specifically Germany and Austria — using 100% green electricity and gas. At the same time, the profiles are only manufactured and further processed at German locations. All of this demonstrably helps to reduce the carbon footprint and promote sustainability in construction. The system’s components can be easily and environmentally friendly separated into aluminium and plastic. Because the plastic components are not firmly attached to the aluminium profile, they can be returned to the economic cycle quickly. “The newly developed bracket series has a significant impact on resource utilisation due to its wide range of applications in construction. I am proud that we have once again incorporated BUG DNA and our own standards into product development, making the product series sustainable and recyclable. At the same time, the bracket system is a product supplement to our high-performance System 500 window sill system,” explains Martin Götze, Director BUG Aluminium-Systeme.

Thermally separated window sill bracket

Thermally separated window sill brackets are used to prevent thermal bridges. They are particularly relevant for ETICS facades, as otherwise cold can penetrate the masonry and cause damage.

The HS 500 window sill brackets can ensure thermal separation by installing sound-dampening strips or an alternative material that is 10 millimetres wider than the aluminium profile of the window sill bracket. The bracket variants of the HS 500 can be used for any type of facade without having to fear losses in energy efficiency.
