Thirteen-strong trade fair team for ALUMINIUM 2024 in Düsseldorf

BUG reflects on the success of the ALUMINIUM 2024 trade fair

23-10-2024 | BUG Aluminium-Systeme (BUG) exhibited at the world-leading ALUMINIUM trade fair in Düsseldorf for the first time as part of the ST Extruded Products Group (STEP-G). This was a successful key event for STEP-G and its BUG brand, as it is an important meeting place for the aluminium industry and the world’s largest aluminium trade fair.

From 8 to 10 October 2024, STEP-G presented innovative solutions for the entire added value supply chain in the automotive, rail vehicle, aviation, and construction sectors at ALUMINUM 2024. All the component and assembly solutions presented focused on lightweight construction and high strength, thereby guaranteeing a sustainable carbon footprint. Visitors to the stand learned how STEP-G’s advanced technologies and materials contribute to efficiency and sustainability in the industry.

The stand had a modern, bright and welcoming design, and for the first time it adopted an open dialogue and meeting concept. In order to emphasise the concepts of guidance systems, sustainability and well-being, plant elements of different sizes were an important design component. STEP-G was one of the few exhibitors to display physical exhibits at its stand. In addition to machined, extruded aluminium profiles for battery trays and housings in the automotive industry, STEP-G presented highly complex, large-scale profiles for the construction of modern trains and rail vehicles. The stand also featured advanced aluminium solutions for aerospace and defence applications. We also presented some exciting system developments from our own BUG brand. Digital technologies supported the trade fair appearance: LED screens with sequenced image film excerpts and tablet panels featured product and team presentations.

For the first time, BUG presented itself as its own strong brand with its own exhibit at the STEP-G stand at ALUMINIUM. The secure and easy-to-install window sill System 500 with coordinated components was exhibited. The tested system components, together with the window sill, form a solution that provides water tightness under heavy rain and is easy to install. A key feature here is the comprehensive testing of all system components.

“It was an exciting and novel opportunity for us to showcase our work at the world’s leading trade fair. We had many interesting discussions on site and gained new perspectives on how to remain successful in the face of upcoming challenges and new framework conditions,” says Martin Götze, Director of BUG Aluminium-Systeme. He adds, “We have an instructive past and a challenging present. Only by creating synergies, such as close networking within the group of companies and at events like this one, will we be able to stay on the road to success.”

At the same time, the opportunity was seized to present the company as an employer brand. At ALUMINIUM’s Career Day, students had the chance to meet potential employers from the aluminium industry. A guided tour of the exhibition stands of participating companies, such as STEP-G, provided an opportunity for everyone to network and get to know each other.

Despite focusing on product and company marketing, STEP-G and its own brand, BUG, prioritise social responsibility within the group and in wider society. For this reason, a fundraising campaign in favour of the German Childhood Cancer Foundation was held at the trade fair for the first time. One euro was donated for every social media post featuring a visitor to the stand in front of the donation banner with the STEP-G eagle. The donation amount was raised through a joint fundraising campaign at STEP-G locations, which the company then rounded up. It provides a small amount of support for children with cancer and their families. The German Childhood Cancer Foundation uses its funds to provide financial support, fund research projects that improve treatment and recovery rates, and organise awareness-raising events.

“It’s more than just a donation — it’s about changing the lives of children fighting cancer. Perhaps we will be able to offer them new opportunities and experiences,” explains David Müller, Head of Human Resources. He goes on to emphasise, “Together, we will create unforgettable moments. This makes me very proud, showing that we take this issue seriously as a company and make an important contribution to society!”

The trade fair team would like to thank all visitors for their interest, for speaking with us, and for taking part in the fundraising campaign at the STEP-G stand.
