BUG launches training campaign for standard and guideline-compliant window sill installation
In view of the increasing number of relevant directives and their amendments, the safety, durability and professional installation of construction materials pose particular challenges for contractors and their clients, such as local authorities. Assembly work requires a wide range of skills and in-depth expertise. This is becoming an increasingly important consideration in light of the current labour market shortage of personnel and skilled workers. The various trades must therefore constantly develop new ideas in order to further optimise product safety, durability and ease of installation of components in construction and at the same time ensure a sustainable transfer of knowledge.
BUG Aluminium-Systeme (BUG) is fulfilling its order as a system provider and is supporting its partners with a corresponding training offensive, which was launched in mid-2022. The BUG project was inspired by the training and further education campaign “Mobilising and Creating Building Land: Strategies and Instruments for More Housing Construction”, which was initiated by the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development at the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBSR). This was organised by the German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu), in collaboration with the vhw – Bundesverband für Wohnen und Stadtentwicklung e.V. (Federal Association for Housing and Urban Development).
The extensive series of events launched by BUG with its partners in 2022 will continue seamlessly in 2023. The first training courses have already been implemented and more are being planned. The necessary expertise for correctly installing window sills is conveyed in a tangible and concise manner. The focus is always on the practical and general transfer of knowledge regarding the safe, simple and compliant installation of window sills. The current standards and directives are referenced, and the state of the art is explained in a comprehensible manner. The training campaign is intended to impart the necessary basic knowledge in a concise manner. At the same time, it is important for customers and their processors to deepen their existing knowledge and experience. Martin Götze, Director of BUG Aluminium-Systeme, reports that the response to this active training offer has been very positive: “There has been a strong response from our customers, with around 500 people having been trained since we started.” Our focus is always on practical applications in construction. Our training programme aims to impart specific assembly knowledge to our customers, who can then pass it on to their own customers. Our products serve as solution components. Here, we see ourselves as a “system-oriented solution provider” rather than a “product supplier of extruded aluminium profiles”.“
BUG sees itself as a knowledge broker that provides neutral training on standardised, directive-compliant window sill installation, in line with current best practice. The training campaign reveals the full range of existing trades and options for action. Further training courses are being planned in collaboration with neighbouring trades. “I see myself as a neutral expert and knowledge broker, operating according to the latest standards. I am motivated by communicating technical specifications to everyone involved, regardless of the interface. This is the only way to develop a sustainable and meaningful understanding of technical products and applications,” says Günter Haseitl, Head of BUG Product Development. He adds: “We will only be able to secure our customers’ technical understanding and improve our product applications in the future with their experience. At the same time, I use cross-market exchanges with a wide range of target groups, including planners and users, to develop safe and durable construction system solutions. The ever-increasing technical demands present new challenges for all trades. My motivation and goal is to offer products that provide sustainable added value for simple, safe, cross-system use, and which always fulfil the current state of the art and are easy to install.”
