BUG opens new processing and logistics distribution centre
With the aim of being even closer to customers and achieving optimum delivery capability, the decision was made in November 2020 to implement the project to develop the new processing and logistics distribution centre. This benefits BUG customers in several ways. Supply capacities were increased and processing and logistics processes were optimised. Thanks to the increased storage capacity, customers will receive the stocked components and corresponding installation accessories for the BUG window sills, weather protection rails and flat roof systems even faster. As a supplier, BUG can respond more quickly and flexibly to enquiries and orders. The Development, Process and Service Management departments, along with the Customer Support team, will continue to be based in Vogt. The coordination-intensive wood-aluminium and facade systems will continue to be produced, processed and shipped at the STEP-G location in Vogt. As usual, Austrian customers are supplied with window sill systems from Traun in Austria and also advised on the corresponding BUG window systems.
Further processing of BUG products for the sophisticated BUG window sill and flat roof systems takes place at the newly opened BUG location. The extruded aluminium profiles for this are delivered from the STEP-G locations in Bitterfeld and Vogt. These aluminium profiles are then processed further in Hettstedt according to the customer’s requirements. They are then either sent directly to the picking department or stored.
As part of the project, the building infrastructure in Hettstedt was comprehensively modernised: halls were extended, floors were laid and walls were plastered and painted. The machinery from Vogt underwent extensive maintenance and modernisation when it was relocated to Hettstedt. In addition, a completely new logistics concept including a small parts warehouse was developed. This also includes a newly built cantilever racking system for long goods up to 6 metres, such as BUG window sills. In addition, the entire intralogistics system has been redesigned to streamline work processes and minimise throughput times.
Together with its long-standing partner Stöhr Logistik GmbH, the picking and dispatch of components and matching installation accessories for BUG window sill and flat roof systems will be even more efficient in future. The cooperation with Stöhr was intensified and the expertise and years of experience in the logistics sector were utilised to supply BUG customers even more reliably. The new BUG processing and logistics distribution centre covers 1,700 square metres of production space and is equipped with seven processing systems. It also has 5,800 square metres of storage space for semi-finished products and goods ready for dispatch.
