The Post Luxembourg HELIX: a structure with a living, breathing facade
The Post Luxembourg HELIX features an innovative design with natural stone pilaster strips and an atrium facade. The building envelope was provided with a steel structure and finished with mullion and transom facades covering an area of 3,030 m². Over 900 wood-aluminium windows (approx. 5,300 m²) were installed in the building. Due to the unusual shape of the facade and the specific arrangement of the stone pilaster strips, highly complex 3D planning was required by the architects and installers.
The pilaster strips act as formative elements and give the building a striking appearance with a structure that is rounded, sloped and partly interweaved. The detailed and static implementation of the design, especially on the roof, was particularly challenging. Due to the height of approximately 34 metres, special equipment was needed to install the various elements, including suckers, tower cranes and mast climbing platforms.
